Geranium Plug Plant Competition
We are delighted that the plug plant competition is back for 2025. This is a chance to grow a beautiful geranium which you can then bring along to form part of a colourful display at the AUTUMN SHOW 2025
This free to enter competition is part of our 'Supporting Community through Gardening' promise. These homegrown geraniums can be entered at the Autumn Show in 2025.
Follow the planting and growing instructions below and then display your plant in the AUTUMN SHOW 2025
in the Jubilee Hall on Saturday 20th September.

Growing tips for Geraniums (Pelargonium), just the basics.
There is a wide choice of videos on YouTube that can also help.
Potting Compost: a mixture of ordinary garden soil mixed with peat free/garden compost is ideal for ensuring good drainage and some moisture retention. If you want to buy compost, go for one that contains loam/topsoil such as John Innes No.2.
Plant your new Pelargonium plug into a small (say 9cm) pot to start with, keeping it in a bright, warm (7-21°C/45-70°F) place for the first few weeks. As it grows, put it into successively larger pots up to max. 8”.
Watering: they’re pretty tolerant and less water is safer than over-watering.
Drainage: essential! Only use pots with drainage holes.
Good idea to stand on a saucer so you can pour away excess water - they certainly don’t like wet feet!
Feeding: occasionally, but if you’re too generous, it’s likely to produce more leaves than flowers.
Location: sunny and sheltered from damaging winds. Or indoors with good light and air circulation.
